Netshine Review:
This is more than just
another Joomla book - it is a comprehensive multi-media training
course, and as far as I am aware, the first of its kind. Whether you
prefer to learn by reading, having an expert show you what to do,
trying things out for yourself, or all three, this book and DVD set
contains all the resources you need not only to master Joomla, but also
to build and maintain a successful website.
The scope of the course is impressive - assuming limited or no
knowledge of building websites, the author provides clear explanations,
accompanied by liberal screenshots and illustrations to guide the
novice through understanding exactly what Joomla is, how to install it,
basic configuration, and on to more advanced techniques including
search engine optimisation and marketing, and for the more technical
reader, it even discusses developing your own templates.
The accompanying DVD lessons incorporate powerpoint presentations that
give a deeper understanding of all the subjects discussed in the book,
as well as hands-on examples showing you what to do - almost like
having a Joomla expert sitting at your desk with you! Barrie North's
conversational style is clear and helpful, without being patronising.
There is a lot of material here, and it will take some time to digest
(the DVD alone contains about 9 hours of video), but if you are serious
about really getting to grips with Joomla and getting the best out of
it, you will be hard-pressed to find a more thorough and helpful course
on such a low budget.
On the downside, there are a few spelling mistakes,
and the occasional badly worded sentence, but these are few and far
between - not enough to detract from the overall usefulness of the
course.

each other (the DVD lessons mirror the chapters of the book), and were
presented to me for review as a set, they are sold separately on
Amazon, and the DVD comes with its own 100+ page booklet.
